About Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome

What is Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome?

Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, the official journal of the Brazilian Diabetes Society (SBD), is an open access, peer reviewed, online journal that aims to further the understanding of all aspects of diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

The journal presents original material on any aspect of laboratory, animal or clinical research about the physiology and pathophysiology of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Through offering a high-visibility forum for new insights and discussions, the journal aims to help health care providers improve the management of people afflicted by these syndromes by increasing knowledge and stimulating research in the field.

Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome reports on basic research and clinical studies in the areas of genetics, pathophysiology, immunology, epidemiology, clinical management, therapeutic strategies, education, nutrition and psychosocial research relevant for the study of diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Content overview

Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome considers the following types of articles:

Research: reports of data from original research.

Reviews: comprehensive, authoritative, descriptions of any subject within the journal’s scope. These articles are usually written by opinion leaders that have been invited by the Editorial Board.

Commentaries: short, focused and opinionated articles on any subject within the journal's scope. These articles are usually related to a contemporary issue, such as recent research findings. They focus on specific issues and are about 800 words in length.

Case reports: reports of clinical cases that can be educational, describe a diagnostic or therapeutic dilemma, suggest an association, or present an important adverse reaction. All case report articles should indicate that informed consent to publish the information was granted from the patients or their guardians.

Short reports: brief reports of data from original research.

Letters to the Editor: these can take three forms: a substantial re-analysis of a previously published article, or a substantial response to such a re-analysis from the authors of the original publication, or an article that may not cover 'standard research' but that may be relevant to readers.

Peer review policy

All submitted manuscripts will be evaluated by the Editors-in-Chief or experts from the Editorial Board and suitable manuscripts then sent for peer review. The reports of at least two reviewers will be considered when deciding on acceptance or rejection of a manuscript; a further reviewer will be invited in cases where these reviewers disagree. Final decisions, however, rest with the Editors-in-Chief, who aim to provide an initial decision within six weeks.

Edited by Daniel Giannella-Neto and Marilia de Brito Gomes, Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome is supported by an expert Editorial Board.

Publishing in Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome

All articles are listed in PubMed immediately upon acceptance (after peer review), and are covered by PubMed Central and CAS.

Articles in Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome should be cited in the same way as articles in a traditional journal. However, because articles in this journal are not printed, they do not have page numbers. Instead, they have a unique article number.

The following citation:

Diabetol Metab Syndr 2004, 2:1

refers to article 1 from volume 2 of the journal.

As an online journal, Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome does not have issue numbers. Each volume corresponds to a calendar year.
